SensoBack saves resources

More efficiency in processes and production methods – this becomes possible with digital solutions such as SensoBack from WP Kemper. The smart idea prevailed in the innovation competition Produktion.NRW, in which a total of 37 projects took part, and was proposed for funding.

In the production of small pastries, such as bread rolls and Berliners, products are repeatedly created that do not meet the baker's quality specifications, and are therefore discarded. The development of WP Kemper is aimed to minimize such losses. SensoBack combines smart sensors in the production process with an intelligent control system that is linked to a cloud.

Plant and mechanical engineering is one of eight leading markets so enormously important for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), that the state invites to participate in the leading market competition Produktion.NRW to promote it. Thematic focus is on “Industry 4.0” and “Efficiency in production”. In the first selection round, a panel of top-class experts examined and evaluated the project outlines on the basis of transparent selection criteria, and selected the ten most innovative contributions for funding. Around ten million euros are being provided by the state of NRW and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to promote these new developments in networked production.

“We are very proud that SensoBack was selected by the jury. For us, this is also an incentive to continue leading the way and developing intelligent machines and plants for the bakery industry,” says Dr. Michael Euler, Managing Director of WP Kemper. Within WP BAKERYGROUP, Kemper is the competence center for mixing and roll baking systems, and one of the world’s leading manufacturers in this field.
